Well I said in two sentences what it took them a full paragraph.
 I also don't feel that coating the inside of the bowl with ash is really necessary.In any case, spend whatever time you feel is needed. I know some who take 10 minutes cleaning and polishing their pipe after each smoke ... and others who have never cleaned their pipes.
