Very warm and humid here today, so a large gin (The Botanist Islay Dry Gin) & tonic topped up with fresh watermelon cubes... Delicious!

Golden Eye Pinot from 2012. Good now but should be at it’s peak in another five years.

A new one for me... Jim Beam Double Oak Bourbon. If I had to sum this whiskey up in one sentence, I'd say, "It's a bit like a mini Knob Creek." The oak input is certainly there, yet doesn't quite verge on the overpowering. All in all, a decently balanced Kentuckian at a good price point. Furthermore, it takes to being served on the rocks well.

Repeat pour last night as we sat by the pool at our friends' place an hour or so outside of Montreal (following a barbecued rib-eye dinner accompanied by a bottle of Mara Valpolicella Ripasso).

Yet another Saturday evening gathering with friends, this time in a garden setting and with copious quantities of delicious accompanying foods...
Arran 14 Year Old: A lovely and lively expression from this excellent distillery, chocked full of citrus tinged malt sweetness and with just a hint of the sea to add to the freshness. Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition (distilled 1997 and bottled 2014): Rounder and richer on the palate than the preceding, with the Oloroso cask finishing providing a sumptuous treat for the taste buds. Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength: A higher than normal proof (around 58%ABV) expression than those I've previously experienced. Spiced apple pie in a bottle. Clean as a whistle too. In short, brilliant. Longrow 14 Year Old: Springbank's peaty sibling. Composed and complex. Really, really good. And less edgy than I recall as well. Ardbeg Corryvreckan: Always one of my favourite Islay malts. A genial peat monster that assaults and caresses at the same time. Aberlour a'bunadh: Classic Oloroso Sherry casked Highland whisky. Over 60%ABV in strength, and palatable as it pours! The consistency of this malt down through the years is noteworthy. Plantation XO 20th Anniversary Barbados Rum: Smooth as silk. We all walked away from this tasting in fine form.

And hopefully to a waiting cab.

No cabs required. Pacing ourselves over six hours and eating copious quantities of delicious food (provided by our gracious hosts) made all the difference. The Corryvreckan, as expected, was a 'killer'.
