I look at them all the time in the reduced bin, but even at 40% off, a $12 steak is just out of the question but about twice a year.

Here in SoCal, we have Stater Bros super market chain known for their butcher shop. They sell t-bones, rib eyes, New York strip, porterhouse, other fine cuts of beef for market price. But they always put one or two of these popular cuts on their weekly special price for as low as $4.99 per pound for a rib roast, and 5.99 per pound for popular cuts. Their bone-in rib eyes and New York strips are typically around $5.99 per pound. Pork Picnic roast generally runs $0.99 cents a pound, and the boneless pork roasts run about $1.49 per pound.
They are not the uber ultra high end meats, but their meat is pretty decent for the price. Excellent for summer barbecuing without breaking the budget.

Standard Market has dry aged beef, which you can see aging in their display case. I cannot afford that, although if I could get my family to agree to a dry aged standing rib roast for Christmas rather than a ham I would pay for it.
Why that will never happen is another story
