Oh wow! I've never seen a larger sized cigar tar that much. I always have that problem with cheapie smaller cigarillos and cigarette-sized cigars I smoke while running errands and driving around. I've found I get it when the roll on them is too tight and I'm assuming the tar just gets funneled into one spot and accumulates. Usually snipping the head a little more to loosen the draw helps but obviously that didn't work for you.

As for Opus, I love Opus but as you guys already mentioned it's got a particular single taste and you need to love that taste to love the cigar, which I do. To me it has a strong natural tobacco flavor without the acidity or burn you get from other cigars with the same taste.
