Need Liquid diet ideas
Long story , but ,the gist of it is my girlfriend is 75% of the way thru radiation treatment , on strong pain meds and they aren't doing as much as she needs but is essentially out of options , the pain when she goes to bathroom is approaching unbearable ....
She wants to try a mostly liquid diet to limit the residue etc... we have been doing mostly a low fiber/residue diet , but , trying to limit output as much as possible.. She is currently just eating/drinking water, soup ,Ensure , Avocado/Yogurt smoothies.... anyone have any ideas for something other than just plain broth etc... Dan |

I would jokingly suggest tequila, but this is no joke. She needs electrolytes as well as vitamin supplements.
I would avoid dairy as much as possible. Suffering with ibs, dairy only makes it worse.

I wish she could have alcohol (I am going thru alot) but , from the pamphlet for the one med "do not consume alcohol , you will overdose and die"
I have moved her away from most dairy stuff , just the stuff in smoothie for the most part ... and she is now eating very small portions many times a day... Dan |

Bananas, man. Nutricious, little fiber, and relatively basic and easy to digest.

Fresh carrot juice. You'll need a good, quality-grade juicer (not a blender). And the carrot juice should be consumed immediately after processing. Multiple nutrients and health benefits (antioxidants, vitamins, fiber). Plus you can also juice a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables.

I have a juicer , I didn't think about the carrot juice I used to make because it had jalapenos in it , I can leave them out doh... it has Carrots , apples , lemons and jalpos , I guess if i leave the spicy out ... Thanks for reminding me !! I/We get tunnel vision it seems with this stuff .... hence the reason I ask the group for ideas ... honestly , until you watch someone go thru this shit (colon cancer) it doesn't seem like a big issue etc... it is brutal on both sides of it .... beyond any pre-conceived notions you may have (as in my case)... How does winter squash sound, for example, butternut with sugar and butter?
Grapes, melon, applesauce, pears, pumpkin pie? These should all be low fiber, but check it out first. Some dried fruits like dates or mango? She must have meat, maybe some liver or sausage, or jerky? She also must have some quality cats. You can do even add some oil or butter to her smoothie as you emulsion it. At this place you should be giving her as balanced a diet as you possibly can, and fats, proteins and carbs are all essential for metabolism and health of tissues. I think that the simpler fruit sugars are going to help the most, but be careful to avoid any fruits with any form of sorbital. Maybe jello or pudding. Rice pudding with some fruit? Tapioca? |

I can try to talk her into cats , but , getting quality ones may be a bit difficult The butternut squash idea may work , I recall a Chicken and butternut squash recipe , I will look it up and give it a try... the avocados have lots of fat , as do the ensure's that she is drinking , as I mentioned I am keeping her on mostly liquid , but , I will add meat, fats and a few vegs , from what I have read , canned vegetables are the best in her situation because of the acids used in canning tends to wipe out the fiber etc... just want this crap to be over , she has about 2 more weeks of highly targeted radiation to go yet .... she thinks just one week , but , i have talked to the doc , and know the schedule , I wont tell her ... in her situation I think ignorance is the best option...
