Curing tobacco

So, whenever I read about curing tobacco, a barn or similar structure is always mentioned, but never why those places.

Does it need to be kept out of sunlight when air curing?

I've never seen it explicitly stated, but it's always someplace indoors that's mentioned for curing.

Any info or links on whether it needs to be kept out of the sunlight when air curing would be greatly appreciated.

I friggin love tobacco!
