I've been smoking at my Buddy's house in his basement more as the weather gets colder. I had given him a gazelle stand some years ago and it was in nice original condition. But the gazelle stands have 6" ashtrays. Fine for a lone smoker, but between two guys it seemed a bit small. I had this ornate number with an 8" ashtray sitting in the shop for years. I had originally thought I'd keep it for myself. I like the fancy nature of it and the pink ashtray is a nifty feature. Thing is, I don't really need it. That's why it had sat unfinished for so long.
When I bought it, it had been spray painted a monochrome gold. I took pains to make the piece at the top of the base mimic glass. I think it turned out pretty good. I swapped it for the gazelle. My Buddy and I are both happy. He gets a nice new stand and I get to look at it when I'm smoking with him. I'll be redoing the gazelle and selling it to some lucky cigar smoker. |

Old stands are going for high prices on eBay and shipping runs about $50. That will make the finished product pretty pricey. And they ain't cheap now. But that's later. If you want one, send me a PM. I can tell you what I have and maybe send a couple pics before getting started on one for you. |

I sympathize as I am also an outdoor smoker. But I do have some trays I take outside when the weather is nice. I'll keep posting them as I finish 'em.

When I was a child(in the 50s), my grandparents (mothers side) had a little wooden cabinet with doors in front, interior about 1 cubic foot. It was on four legs about the height of an end table and had small rails an top so it also could be used as a small table. On both sides slightly below the top were arms that supported removable ash tray stands. I'm pretty sure it was made by my great uncle Roman who was a carpenter/cabinet maker as well as a smoker (Camels). I have no idea what happened to it and regret not trying to locate and obtain it in their later years. They've been gone for twenty years. Sure wish I had it now.

Katdad, do a search on smoking stands or smoking tables on ebay. I'll bet you see something very similar.

I see those occasionally, usually lined with copper.

Wow, great work! Really enjoyed reading and seeing all the pictures, especially since I have restored a couple old ashtrays and humidors. Nothing like the examples here, but I really enjoy the hunt and restoration projects.
