2 Cigar Oasis Questions
First Question: Can you use 50/50 solution in the cigar oasis?
Second Question: How often do you REALLY have to replace the cartridge? Some web sites who sell it say after 2 refills, some say after 7 or 8 refills. Or do you really have to replace it at all, unless it stops obsorbing water?

I took the foam put of my Cigar Oasis and replaced it with Super Absorbant Polymers. On older models this is done by prying apart the cartridge, removing the foam, filling about 1/3 the way with SAP and putting it back together, electrical tape will help hold it together.
Edited: I have a newer CO with the large hole in the cartridge where the wick used to be and the SAP's are easily added and/or replaced. I've not had to replace them in over 2 years. Search for Super Absorbant Polymers here or on Cigar Family, HMS Richard has done plenty of threads on them and you'll be reading for hours. I've used them for years with great results and with 4 kids an added bonus is there is no water to spill as the SAP's absorb the water.

I have a CO+, which was one of the originals and it had a wick. I simply got one of the new catridge bases for it from Bob Staebell and I have been using that ever since. The foam catridge is great. I just keep refilling it with distilled water, about once a month. Basically, you can keep refilling it until the foam breaks down. The foam also contains some anti-fungal stuff, so I don't have to worry about mold in the humidifier. Plus, with the foam, I don't have to worry about spills. I expect each catridge to last a year or two, at least.

I like the idea of the SAPs. How hard is it to pry the cartridge open without F-ing it up?
And thank you all for the input.

I'm not gonna lie, it can be a bitch. I've used a putty knife and a razor knife which imo works better. Go slow, take your time and it will come apart.
Hey Rob do you still have the old cartridge?
