I've finished this humidor. Unfortunately, I broke the milk glass bottom panel. Don't ask. I don't have another panel that fits, and I started thinking about a discussion on another thread about metal bottoms. And how I have some heavy gauge copper I salvaged when my roof was redone.
So I cut a piece, knocked out the dings as best I could, cleaned it and polished it. Sure it has dents and scratches. But I like the effect. I think it adds to the vintage look. |

Very fine workmanship -- it does look vintage.

Leaving the dark streaks intact is great. I've refinished a few pieces of oak, one of them was literally black with age, and I got a similar finish. The copper looks good in the bottom. Overall, that looks great, a combination of refreshed vintage.

Not wanting to sound like a broken record, but fantastic work as always, Tim. I really wish that I had such a tangible talent as yours. I always liked working with my hands, I just never had a feel for working with wood like you and my dad can.
Don't even get me started on mechanical stuff. I'm even more thumbs when it comes to that.

Thanks for the kind comments.
I fiddled with the lining a bit to improve the fit and have to redo the lid seal. Then I'll see if anyone wants to buy a faux Dunhill humidor. |
