This is exactly what I do and it works perfectly, especially in the winter. You can easily test it. Start your car, blast the heat from the floor, crack the driver's side window, get out of the car, shut the door, and hold your hand to the open window. You'll feel the air blasting out. Make sure no other windows are open.

It also works with a/c, but not as good.

A number of years ago I regularly traveled about an hour each way to another city for hearings. Every night on the way home I would relax and enjoy a cigar. It was the perfect way to unwind after a hectic day.
