Samplers
From bulk blends, I've never a tobacconist say he wouldn't prepare a sampler. I prefer a 1/2 to 1 oz. sample per blend. It only takes me a bowl or two to know if a tobacco fits my taste requirements. Regretfully, alot of vendors want you to buy 2 oz. per blend and you wind up with alot of tobacco you'll never smoke. The only time I've had a sample of tinned blends is when I'm in a shop and they've opened a tin to try. I assume that some tins are distributed to vendors so that they can give samples.
It really would be too costly for vendors to break open tins to make up samplers. If you have a local pipe smokers club, they may have tobacco exchanges, and of course, there's always someone at a club meeting who is more than happy to give you some samples to try. |
