an apology

I apologize for all the times I said I would rather have root canal than sit through a meeting or do a business trip.

Fark that was an awful 15 minutes trying to get the local anesthesia in place, I ended up having a near panic attack. At least the dentist was understanding when I said "I am deep in fight or flight mode right now"

also I have never had a dentist hit a nerve with the shot that send electricity down a narrow path in my tongue (felt like I was burned afterward)

Once the anesthetic set it was ok - just sore as hell today from keeping my mouth open

I feel your pain. A few years ago I went to have a regular cleaning at the dentist. This guy would give me a shot of novacane since a couple of spots in my mouth was sensitive. He hit a nerve in my mouth and I came out of the chair swinging and almost hit him. From that time on he was very careful when he would give me a shot.

My one root canal wasn't anywhere as painful as a cavity filled in the upper back of my molars. Dentist hit the nerve right in center of the roof of my mouth. Even with sciatica, I have never felt anything like it. Kidney stones are terrible too.

You aren't alone there. That's some serious pain.

Wife will never do anything without gas anymore and that's a good idea for her. Never done gas myself, but did sedate the hell out of myself for the first MRI I ever had, it was one of the coffin types, so tight that my arms touched. completely zombified going in.

I have to admit, the new ultrasonic cleaners go way beyond what I have ever wanted to experience, and I'd recommend gas to use them. I can deal with them, but boy, it grates on my nerves. I suggest gas for everyone with them, at least for the first time, it's far worse than the drills.

when I was having my wisdom teeth out they gassed me and used pentothal. Not enough pentothal, I have always been resistant to drugs of that sort. Pain, sedatives, etc. The things were literally horizontal, and he had to break them apart and drag out the chips, it took a little longer than necessary I guess. I came to while he was tearing out a big chunk, and keep in mind, there was no novocaine, just a sedative to keep me unconscious.

That pain was not anywhere near as bad as what you guys are describing, but it really hurt, and waking up to find myself in such pain, with pliers in my mouth, I remember screaming obscenities for what may have been an hour as the tech tried to get another injection in.

My mother who was in the waiting room told me that I should be ashamed of my vocabulary, or something like that.

Dental work sucks. I prefer brain surgery, but at least dental work feels better after a day or two.
