Can a local tobaccanist replace a stem? Or is there a specialty shop? I guess if you have a valuable or antique pipe, you might want to keep the original stem if possible. Otherwise it doesn't matter. I suspect most of my pipes will be of the "doesn't matter" variety.

If the local shop doesn't do it on-site, they usually send it out to a shop that does. We're fortunate because J.M. Boswell is just up the road from us and we just send pipes to him for repair or to get new stems put on them.
