Solomon Burke
Last night, my boss gave me Solomon Burke's latest disc, "Don't Give Up On Me". I was familiar with who Burke is but had never listened to him.
But this disc kicks ass! It's all songs written by other people for Burke, exclusively. It reads like a who's who in great song writers too: Van Morrison, Tom Waits, Brian Wilson, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Nick Lowe, etc. While you can "hear" the songwriter in each tune, Burke definitely makes each own his own. I highly recommend this. |

oh ya baby! King Solomon!!! i have heard most of his new one and also, Blues Revue gave him a wonderful writeup. I think he's a Handy and a Grammy winner this time ,too. Her also did a great job on a few songs on Derek Trucks' new disc. Long live the King!

"Don't give up on me" is a great CD!!! I've been playing the hell out of it since last fall. It's great for Solomon that it won a Grammy.
