Do you drink "drip" coffee? The reason I ask is because I have "converted" several of my coffee drinking friends to drinking their coffee black by having them try a cup brewed in a Press......makes ALL the difference in the world IMO.

I like my coffee better in ceramic versus stainless steel. I have a stainless steel Bodum and a SS mug. I think the SS flattens the flavor, but it keeps my coffee hot for longer. I need an insulated ceramic or an old glass lined thermos, I guess?

When you have a cold, everything tastes bland because you can't smell well if at all; a travel mug or to-go cup with lid drastically limits your ability to pick up the aroma too. Also look at wine glasses, and you have different shapes for each style to highlight certain aromas (beer is the same to some extent, but not so widely done). Why don't we have something similar for different coffees?

My million dollar invention is going to be a ceramic open-top travel mug. When I figure out the invisible force field that will keep the coffee in and allows the aroma out, I'll be set...
I agree. You could try a star-shaped type silicone rubber diaphragm that is stiff on one side, but when warm liquid or the weight of the liquid hit is, it opens. Or just have a flip top (like a Butler Creek cap) or sliding lever to fully open the lid to drink with your thumb.

I avoid plastic and hot liquids.

I'm loving this discussion. I thought I was the only one that really hated metal travel mugs. I love how they keep the coffee hot for a LONG LONG period of time, but ceramic is just awesome. I agree, I get the aroma of the coffee, but also the cooler air helps cool the coffee so I can drink it quickly (without cugging) & am able to enjoy it.

The only thing I dont like about my ceramic mugs is how fast the coffee cools off. usually isnt a problem first thing in the morning

Warm the mug first. Fill it with boiling water while the coffee brews. End of problem.

I've been using a stainless steel travel mug more for the heat retention then anything else, but this ceramic mug looks intriguing.

I love the Bodum glasses. They're great for sippin' bourbon also.

These are all great points. I take my coffee to work, and I carry it in
a stainless steel thermos. I make sure I rinse it, and before I refill it each
time I take a pot of boiling water to ensure its good and clean. I don't
have the luxury of boiling water at work, so I carry a stainless steel mug
since it holds the heat.

I have never given much thought, but I can see where ceramic would be
much better. I know that is true for other liquids like beer & wine when you
drink out of the proper glasses.

As cold as my office is, I would never be able to enjoy a nice cup of
coffe in the am with a ceramic coffee cup.
