Samuel Gawith Blends - Chocolate Flake
Posted this elsewhere, but to expand ...
A sliced cake, packed in a rectangular tin. There is definitely some Latakia involved, though also some Orientals and of course the Virginia base. In general I do not enjoy Latakia blends. In fact, I have not smoked them for the last 15 years or so. But this is a nice smoke. At times the Latakia is barely noticeable, at other times it predominates. The other leaf is never overpowered, though, the way it sometimes is in English blends. There is a definite scent of chocolate in the tin, but I do not taste it smoking this blend, except when first lighting up. In any event, it is not sickening or overly aromatic. In fact, I find this aspect of the blend enjoyable. It quickly fades and the various tobaccos come to the forefront. I really enjoy this. I am setting aside one or two pipes to devote to it, and have ordered up some additional tins.
