It shouldn't matter, Ben. I've used this technique to fix several lighters, none of which was a Colibri. They're all built pretty much the same way.

How important is it to replace the rubber gasket? I took apart my Tiger and everything sort of fell apart once I took the screw out and jimmied it open. I have no idea where this rubber gasket is supposed to fit.

According to the instructions (which are consistent with my memory of how it went with my lighters), the gasket fits over the flame adjustment screw. Carefully slip the gasket over the screw after you rotate the steel/brass fitting and before you put the lighter back together.
If I'm remembering correctly, the gasket is basically there to hold the steel/brass ring in place. If that ring slips off the "gear" on the base of the flame adjustment screw, you won't be able to adjust the flame.

Hm...I don't think I put it together correctly as the flame is not adjusting. Is that ok? It's set to a level that's satisfactory to me...

Well, if it's at a good level, I think I'd be tempted to let it be. But yes, it should still be adjustable...

True, when I bleed it right before refilling it I suppose I should adjust it to its lowest setting.

Years ago I stopped buying expensive torch lighters. Spending $50 on a lighter that doesn't work isn't my style. Someone gave me a Vertigo Cyclone lighter and it worked flawlessly for 3 years until I lost it. Cigarauctioneer used to carry them and I picked up dozens for $5. Everytime I ordered I would pick up a couple. I gave them away to cigar smokers. It has a huge tank and they just work. Whoever designed this lighter is a genius. https://www.amazon.com/Vertigo-Lotus...s%2C237&sr=8-2
