RIP Leonard Cohen
Passed last night at 82. Part of the soundtrack of my youth. I was fortunate to see him live at the Fox in '09. RIP, old friend.

Great singer songwriter! RIP
Saw John Hiatt last night and that was the first thing said when he came on stage. Said he had just got a call with the news prior to coming on. Told a couple of personal stories about his interactions with him over the years.

And a fixture of the Montreal (my home town) scene for a good part of his life. Along with Irving Layton and Modecai Richler, he will be greatly missed.
Well, my friends are gone and my hair is grey I ache in the places where I used to play And I'm crazy for love but I'm not coming on I'm just paying my rent every day in the Tower of Song I said to Hank Williams, how lonely does it get? Hank Williams hasn't answered yet But I hear him coughing all night long Oh, a hundred floors above me in the Tower of Song I was born like this, I had no choice I was born with the gift of a golden voice And twenty-seven angels from the Great Beyond They tied me to this table right here in the Tower of Song (partial lyrics from "The Tower of Song")

By the way, one of my very favourite Cohen performances was his 1989 appearance on "Night Music" along with Was Not Was and Sonny Rollins.

My favorite song writer.
Saw him once many years ago in Chicago at a tiny club; The Quiet Knight.
