yes great song, Neil was (maybe still is) a great songwriter. I was kidding of course, like Skynrd I'm a Neil Young fan.....I didn't care for his his recent stuff.

Yea, it's hard for me to support Skynrd's retort to Neil's Southern Man. Probably one of the many reasons I never cared for Skynrd. Other reasons are every bar band in El Paso, the town I grew up in, including my brother in law's band, played the hell out of Skynrd. I never could stand them.

Neil, to me, is a poet. Sure his voice isn't the best, but that's part of what makes him great to me- he is what he is. Plus, he is garage-grunge unique becasue he doesn't care what the industry is doing or expects.

perhaps the message that was being challenged is Neil's portrayal of the 'southern man' as a racist and Alabama as run down and stuck in a rut (song 'Alabama'). I could see how a southern man who was not a klan member would take offense at such a notion.....

How is this not aimed at the Klan? Do non-Klan southerners regularly burn crosses?
