Ok...just fired up a bowl. I bought this in bulk form. The tobacco is pressed and relatively wet and "gummy." I let it dry out a bit before loading up my pipe. This is a pretty spicy blend...Cabi likes! At first I was put off by it being an aromatic. However, the hints of fruit are VERY subtle. They lend a nice aroma to the smoke without being overpowering and annoying like other, heavy cased aromatics I've smoked. I'm not very good at describing pipe tobacco flavors just yet, but suffice it to say that my taste in tobacco is similar to my taste in cigars...fuller flavors that I have typically found in english blends and VA tobacco. Although FD doesn't fall neatly in the VA camp, it does have that VA flavor with a hint of fruitiness and a spicy kick to boot.
The pipe did go out a few times...I chalk this up to the backy still being a bit wet and my "aromatic only" pipe being relatively new since I don't smoke these blends often. Overall, I'm pleased with this one. It will be a nice change of pace from the regular winter rotation.
