Recent eBay buy
Bought this on eBay recently. It arrived a couple days ago. This is what it looks like fresh out of the box. It appears to be a book matched burl veneer over quartersawn oak. I guess they had a lot of nice oak laying around they could waste.
The inside is milk glass with fancy wood trim. There's a panel missing with part of the seal gone. I think I'm going to keep some of it but make it mostly cedar. It has a couple coats of varnish, the last inexpertly applied, so I'm planning on refinishing. The seller says it's Scottish. I haven't figured out why yet. Nice box though! |

I am really jazzed to perform some magic on it! My buddy thinks I should keep it all original inside. It's glass lined and there's some pieces missing. Plus, it smells pretty musty. I think the old wood pieces have to go. I'll probably do the usual melding of old and new. Glass bottom and top and everything else in cedar.

I finished this one. I used True Oil for the finish. I was griping in the Close But No Cigar forum about a couple imperfections. But I had it sitting on my cabinet for awhile and finally realized that it's a really great old humidor.
I finished the liner in tandem with another project I was working on. So I charged the humidifier and emptied some of the full boxes I had in my coolerdor. RH was 65% in an hour. I'm going to use this humidor for awhile. I had to take the exterior pic on a dark background. I got a lot of reflection with a light background. The shine also messes with the focus. This is about the best I can do. |
