Pipes of yester year

When I smoked pipes (around 1969) a school mate's father owned a tobacco shop. He had a selection of hand made "seconds" with slight blemishes and were unfinished. He sold them to me for $3.00 each. I bought a couple to try. He told me that as I smoke them, the pipes would devolpe a nice looking panteene. Sure enough as I smoked them the finish on them wa amazing! I went back almost weekly and picked 1 or 2 at a time. I had almost 36 of them.

Why I tossed them is besides me. How I wish I had them back!
