That's a pretty big discrepancy. But if it's accurate, it's accurate.

The calibration instructions that come with it are a bit confusing please read their example:

Determine the amount of calibration needed by the display value and subtracting the expected value. For example, if you are expecting 70% but your unit displays 71%,the amount of calibration needed is 71-70=+1%

So what they are saying is if your unit is 1% to high you have to add 1%??? shouldn't you subtract 1%?

Mine is at 70% after doing the salt test so I would have to subtract 5%? 70-75= -5% ?

Thanks

Yes. You need to subtract 5, assuming your hygrometer is really off by that much. I think I'd try the salt test again and make sure that you let it sit for at least 12 hours before checking.

I left it almost 18 hours but like you said I will try it another time to make sure

my thoughts on humidity is that your senses are as important as the number... do they smell right, do they feel right, etc. A well stored cigar has a particualr and to me very pleasant feel and touch.

I don't have hygrometers in my coolers. I do have them in my humis but look at them for trends and accept they are off a bit.

The above is my opinion, by all means store your cigars as you like them.
