GH Dark Flake U/S vs. Brown Flake U/S

I really like Dark Flake and even though it's supposed to be unscented I get the soapy/perfumy flavor at times. I was wondering if the Brown Flake unscented was any better in this regard as well as the overall flavor.

You're into the Lakeland tobaccos so they all pretty much have that general essence. Obviously the scented flakes are much stronger that way.

I liked the Dark Flake. Smoked a lot of it. The Brown still has the general flavor. Plus it has a lot of yellow VA which I find bitey.

Thanks Tim, I am sensitive to bite from some bright Virginias so I'll likely pass on this one.

I enjoy the bolder flavors of GH dark tobaccos more then the brown tobaccos. Some batches have more soapy flavor and other times less. My experience is it depends on the batch you get.

It looks like next month's order will include G&H Dark Flake (scented). According to the blurb on Smokingpipes.com, I might like this with liquorice, walnut, and tonquin flavorings.

That does sound tasty, I'm just afraid of that much topping biting me. I do like the Rum Flake a lot.

I liked the flavorings of those Lakeland blends. But most of them were bitey to me. I think it was the tobacco blends. In the lighter flakes, Louisiana Perique Flake is a good example, you can see the yellow VA predominate. Bites like fire! Grasmere Flake same thing.

After trying everything Gawith and G&H offered I finally switched to C&D. They specify in a lot of their blends between red and yellow VA. Their red VA blends never bit me.

Plus Gawith pissed me off when they discontinued Bracken Flake. Even though it had a moderate bite, I loved that stuff.

I have about an ounce in a jar. I keep it so I can smell it now and then. Smells like a nice aftershave. Don't know why I liked it so much but I smoked pounds of the stuff.
