Four Roses Single Barrel. Still sipping my selections from a week this spring on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Pleasant end to a long day!

High West Rendezvous Rye Whiskey (46%ABV)... An early bottling I've had stowed away in the cabinet for some time. Nice melding of mature smoothness and rye snap on the palate.

Tonight, I poured this very nice 2016 Italian red, which was perfectly balanced and offered up flavours of plums and blackberries, herbs and cloves. Well done!

Hyde Special Reserve Irish Whiskey
Talisker 10 Year Old
Glen Garioch 12 Year Old

All three were tasty.

Opened up my last bottle of Clynelish 1972 Rare Malts Selection 22 Year Old (cask strength) this Christmas Eve. What a superlative whisky! (It needs a few drops of water to really 'shine' in the glass.) I also shared a bottle of 2010 Château Loudenne to accompany a rack of lamb dinner.

Ballantine's Glenburgie 15 Year Old (40%ABV) last night... A pretty decent if not outstanding malt Scotch with quite a rich textural quality and oodles of Speyside fruitiness counterbalanced by spicy oak notes. Good value for a whisky of that age, too.

Wiser's 18 Year Old last night and Macallan Gold Double Cask the evening before... The first-mentioned as full and tasty as one could hope for, the latter a poignant illustration of just how mediocre the lower price scale (though by no means cheap!) Macallan releases have become. This one evokes taste sensations of a lightish and young Calvados much more than the richly textured Sherry casked Macallans of old. It's drinkable but far from memorable.
