CAO Black= CAO Gold???
Ok so i'm in my local B&M last week or something with my stepfather, and he asked the guy if they had any CAO Blacks which i had told him about. I knew they didn't but he asked anyways. the first guy we asked had never heard of them, so he asked one of the other guys, and he said that its just a CAO Gold with different packaging made for Cigars Intl. I've smoked both, and while similar, they are definately blended differently. I didn't argue with the guy, but for my own sake, I wanted to be sure they are different, just so I can feel smarter than them . Any insight is welcomed...

They're definitely different cigars.
The original CAO Black came out about six or seven years ago and didn't have the cedar sleeve. CI reintroduced the line and the cedar sleeve was added.

CAO Black & CAO Gold have completely different flavor profiles IMO. Sounds like the guy was just looking to sell your stepfather a cigar and if you were looking for a CAO Black, a Gold would not do the trick.

I'll go ahead and chime in with everyone else that the CAO Black is a very different and (IMO) better cigar that the CAO Gold. I just found the Golds to be too light/mild.
Looking on the CI site, it seems that the filler is the main difference: CAO Gold Wrapper: Connecticut - Ecuador Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan CAO Black Wrapper: Connecticut-Ecuador Binder: Nicaraguan Filler: Nicaraguan, Honduran, Mexican j.

You're B&M guy falls under one of two categories:
1) he is either a sheyster and just wanted to sell a cigar or 2) a know-it-all guy who really does think that he knows it all. I think these cigars are very different. I no longer am a fan of the CAO Gold, they are just to mild for my tastes. The CAO Black is more of a medium bodied cigar and I think it is much more flavorful as well. You can definitely pick out the cedar tones in it.

You will find that most B&M guys know very little or nothing about the CAO Black because they can't get it. It is only sold online. I actually talked to my local guy about it and he had never heard of them, but the next time I was in there he was smoking one of them. He had gone online and bought some to try.
