Top Cigars of 2017

We are approaching December, Thanksgiving is this week, and so many publications and entities will be sharing their lists of ten best or best _____________ of 2017.

So, let's get ourselves thinking in this way, too, since we will be voting on this.

I propose:
Best cigars of 2017. Tell us the very best thing you smoked this year. Like 2016, we may have a top ten, and then a second ten as many of us had more than one, and there were so many worthy choices.

Best NEW cigars of 2017 There may be some crossover between this last and the Best Cigar of 2017 list. It would be something that was released in calendar 2017.

Any others? "Best" manufacturer/tabaquero?
"Best" retailer?

All of these should generate some spirited discussion, I hope!
All of these and whatever others some of you suggest could make for a nice series of articles for the magazine side over then next two months, along with Jeff's "Vitola of the Month Reviews contest"

Let's have posts and suggestions in this thread, then we can set up the poll question threads after that.

Three for your consideration:

Black Label Trading Co - Morphine
Dunbarton (Steve Saka) - Todos las Dias
Southern Draw - Jacob's Ladder

Which category?

Hey, how about Best Bargain Cigar or do we do our CW thing, like so many of us do. That's what I do, I factor flavor and qualities in my assessment along with price (if I know the price,) at least to a certain extent.

Best Bargain cigar for me would be the Easy Eddie's Stogies from J*R.

Well, let's see.....

Best Smoke of the Year: No doubt for me, it's the La Flor Dominicana - Chapter One. It has it all, a velvet like wrapper, stellar construction, wonderful pre-light aroma and a Twangin great taste, with great flavor variety and a perfect burn. Each were 2+ hours of smoking heaven. I had 3 in CA, before I left, the last one at The Smoking Desire shop and lounge, in Corona CA. It is of course a limited release, but worth looking for. In a CA B&M, it beats the hell out of $24 dollars.

Best New Cigar of 2017: I only considered regular production introductions, not LE's. Otherwise I would have the same answer, since the Chapter One is a new release. But, strangely enough My Favorite "New" cigar is...............also from La Flor Dominicana, The Suave` ( Most properly, the name must be pronounced in the Spanish dialect ) Sw-Ahh-Veh, it also helps if you move your head from side to side when you lay it out there. This is a Dark wrapped beauty, with a consistently great flavor and excellent manners. The one's I had were in the Churchill format and smoked cool and slooow. I was shocked at the quality for the money. They came in at just over $11 dollars, again that was CA prices. I had never even heard of the Suave`, before I saw it on the shelf. It pays to try new things.

I had many good and a few Great Cigars in the past year, from many different makers. It's interesting, yet completely co-incidental that these two were both LFD products. It's funny how that works sometimes.

Add on, Best Bargain Smoke: 5 Vegas - Triple AAA cigars. This is a one size only in Gran Robusto. They have great flavor, construction and I've never had a bad one. There are not very many cigars that I can honestly say that about, no matter what the price point. These range in price from $6 to $7 dollars, singles price. When I don't want drama, just a great med to full smoke, the Triple A fills the bill.

Good luck Sir Tommy!

Cheers!

Tommy, the TLD and the JL are both new releases, but they would also vie for best of the year.

I kind of think it would not be fair to add any of the Havanas I smoked this year because they all have so much age on them.

The ones that I have smoked feel pretty "last year" as many of the ones I tried this year are from the cw 2016 best of...but my top three are probably aj Fernandez new world; Blanco Nine Torpedo; and possibly aj Fernandez Last Call. My first last call was amazing, but the others were good but not transcendent.

Another new blend worth mention is the Camacho Nicaraguan Barrel Aged.
