Well, specifically, I meant that it is like a BEER, as opposed to a good lager, IPA, porter, esb, stout, wheat, bock, or other strongly flavored brew. It was just something that was at the way far end of the bud/miller/coors thing. There were none of the normal things that you would look for in a specialty brew that stood out, like strong burnt malt flavor, or tons of hops.

It was just a heavy version of what the average joe drinks, with really well balanced tastes. Regarding the head, when I have had murphy's stout, the head was as heavy and hard as cool whip. I don't particularly like that. The red was similar. I like to have a head on my glass, but I expect it to break down within a few minutes, instead of still lurking there a half hour later, waiting to glue my nose hairs to my lip.

No great complexity, no knockem dead qualities. it just tasted right. something I would drink on a routine basis, when I wanted something simple.
