Final report on the DFW PTDC

The 16th annual Dallas Post Turkey Day Crawl is history, and coming as late as this is, this report is probably history too. On Friday November 26th, our intrepid bunch of herfers arrived for lunch at Wizards where they were treated to the new Quesada Tributo. This is a rather strong smoke for sort of first thing in the morning, but our group of about 50 are seasoned veterans. The reaction was excellent. (One member could not find them near his home so he has mail ordered some boxes from one of ouor participating stores.) From Wizards we went to our first stop, Tobacco Gallery in Dallas where Tom and Ryan Poehler brought specials on Camacho and Drew Estate products. Bob Smalley, the store’s owner, also threw in additional specials and his annual turkey trot…(you have go walk like a turkey across the street to the Starbucks and back, the best turkey imitations got special prizes.)

From Tobacco Gallery we went up to Two Brothers in Plano where Tom Poehler brought specials on La Aurora and Miami Cigars. Brian McGee was going to be at the event with Toraño specials, but the flu kept him at home wich we all appreciated. SAG also ran specials on the Quesadas and PJ Poehler had specials on Alec Bradley (love the family blend) and the new Augusto Reyes line. The Urban is a particularly good stick with a fair price. Rick also brought out some rum and several scotches for us to taste. Our final store stop was at Cigar Shop and More in Addison which next year will be the host of our dinner as Kent moves to a bigger location next door with a restaurant and cigar bar. Jesus Fuego was featured along with Tom Poehler representing Pete Johnson. (Pete himself did not make it this year.)

Dinner was at Arthurs and this was the first annual Chris Edmonson Memorial dinner, to honor Chris who helped form our Dallas group via Usenet many years ago and who passed suddenly this summer. Chris was always a mainstay of our group and we will remember and honor him. His widow, Lauren, was able to come this year and it gave our dinner a special purpose and class.
For dinner the participants got the new Macanudo Cru Royale which got great reviews and an unreleased ( so far) Don Fernando from La Aurora. This was the cigar that Don Fernando Leon smoked over the last few years of his life. His usual cigar had used a Cameroon wrapper, but after the success of the Dominican Corojo used for the Cien Años, he changed the wrapper to Corojo and that was the cigar everyone received. Several of our crawlers said it was one of the best cigars they had ever smoked and were bummed they could not buy it now.

The charity portion was a success, in that we raised over $2200 for The Salvation Army. So many people to thank: Our Sponsors—Altadis, STG, Pete Johnson, José Blanco & Guillermo Leon from La Aurora, Charlie Toraño, Jesus Fuego, Augusto Reyes, Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, Camacho, Matt Booth, Alec Bradley, Miami Cigar, Drew Estate, Reyes Family Cigars—Carlos Diaz, Berta Bravo—the Guyaberra Lady, Xikar and Cgars Ltd – our local sales reps Tom Poehler, PJ Poehler, Ryan Poehler, Dave Brophy and Brian McGee. And thanks to all the participants who made the event a success.
