I don't leave them open. Sealed boxes of cigars are just as fresh as opened boxes. They're aren't airtight. Also, the 'wine in the bottle' effect of aging that people talk about won't occur if you keep the boxes open. In a lot of ways, too much circulation can be a bad thing.

On another note, boxes that are opened are a real pain to organize in a cooler.
