Sticky Xikars

I just got the two for one deal from Cigar.com. Both of my cutters are a little sticky in that they won't spring open when the buttons are pulled back.

What can I use to lube them and where do I put it?

I got four of the Xi2's from Cigar.com to give as gifts and have the same problem with both of the blue cutters. Even though the blades stick, they seem wobbly when opened compared to the red ones, which feel more solid.

There are a number of other differences between the two colors. The blue ones do not have a slotted screw at the pivot point; the knobs on the locking mechanism are different; and the blades on the red ones are marked Solingen Germany, while the blue ones are not.

The blue ones feel inferior to the red ones, and I question the workmanship and quality. In fact, I just sent an email to Xikar asking about the differences.

To answer your question, FSU, here's some info from the Xikar site:

We recommend that you periodically clean and lubricate the locking / opening mechanism on XI cutters and knives. Simply place a couple of drops of a quality graphite lubricant (such as TUF GLIDE or LOCK EASE) in the mechanism, and operate the unit for deep penetration. Wipe away excess lubricant when finished. The locking mechanism of XI cutters can be accessed through the hole that appears above the release button when the cutter is open.

Thanks for the info. I haven't gotten to try mine yet. Tonight!!! I'll go the hardware store tomorrow and get one or the other to the lubes.

Hi everyone,

I too got in on the 2 for 1 deal and noticed the Blue cutter was vastly inferior to the Red one. In fact my blue one had a snapped spring on the first day as I was cutting a cigar. It too felt "sticky" and wouldn't "spring open" as well as my red one. It is already on its way back to XIKAR for repair/replacement. I've sent Christy MaGuirk at XIKAR an email about it and expect they will take care of it quickly. I didn't bother going in to the differences with Christy because I figured that they would do what ever magic was needed to make the Blue one work fine... screw pivot or not... Blade makings or not... I just assumed that when it comes back from "Spa XIKAR" it will be perfect. Now that I'm hearing that I'm not the only one with this issue it would be interesting to hear what XIKAR has to say about the differences.

I didnt realize that there were so many differences between the two. Fortuantly, I have the red one. I'll have to call my buddy who has the blue Xikar and see whats up...

Well, While I didn't hear anything related to why the two are different... Christy MaGurik indicated they have already received my defective cutter and sent a replacement unit. I'll let you all know if the replacment has the same issues or not once I get it.

For anyone who might need contact info for XIKAR
(not that is is hard to find on their web site)
