Tatuaje Anarchy

Appearance: A beautiful dark brown, a nice sheen and very few veins. Construction was firm but not hard, no lumps. It was a little soft at the foot but firm the rest of the way.

Pre-light Aroma: Nada. Zip. Zero. A touch of spice, more toward the pepper side but hardly any aroma at all.

Cap: A very neat coil that reminded me of a cinnamon roll. That was a nice touch.

Pre-light Draw: This was also very good. It didn't take too much effort, just enough.

Light-up: I toasted the foot and was rewarded with a mild, peppery sense in my nose more like a white pepper than a freshly ground black pepper.

Smoke: Not too much at the beginning with this one which surprised me a little. As I get into it it's starting to produce a bit more.

Burn: Unlike the 7th Capa Especial, this has less of a straight burn but isn't tunneling. The ash is a medium mottled grey and stays put well. This cigar is much heavier than it looks, hinting at a plentiful amount of leaf without having any draw problems. I've had to re-light several times once I got near the halfway point and it's starting to get a metallic taste to it. As dense as this roll is, I wondered if I would have to do that and I have. As well, the volume of smoke has increased quite a bit.

Flavor: This reminds me of more a woody, earthy flavor with just enough pepper and chewy on the back end. The Habano wrapper reminds me more of a maduro in taste and has a stronger finish that reminds me of a Nica Libre but not quite as heavy. Although this has more of a one-dimensional mild flavor at the start, about an inch into it the strength picks up quite a bit. It tastes like it could use some aging as it gives me the impression that it hasn't had time for the characteristics of the different leaves to meld.

Overall this is a cigar I would probably let rest for several months to see if it would bring out any additional flavors and also to see if it tames the overall dark flavor. I might be generous giving this a five out of ten but not because it's bad, it just doesn't have the complexity of some others.

Not sure if this has been suggested before, but has Cigar weekly considered doing a Pod Cast? I listen to Blow'n Smoke pod cast sometimes (they get a bit too dirty for my liking sometimes, so it is in moderation) but the same format could be followed. The show reviews a cigar, among several guys, while going over different news articles and events both on the topic of cigars and beyond. but by the end of the show you get a cigar review, and funny commentary about a wide range of things. Just though it would be something fun to do, not to mention after this weekend Herf we had, would be awesome to have some audio. just a thought

There is a very shallow, low slope valley that runs through much of joplin, draining maybe 5-10 square miles slowly to the middle. There is one particular bottleneck that floods once in a while, it's about a mile long, and at the lowest point of land. We wound up at some point with about 5 feet of water in a railroad underpass with a car ass deep in it, and the "creek"/storm canal that goes through town burst its banks at the bottleneck, and flooded maybe a square mile of the area 1-2 feet deep over the unofficial banks" of the river. Downstream, they rebuilt it about 50 feet wide, and even this 50 feet wide section, still in a valley, flooded up to the banks, if the debris hooked along it is any indication. The banks open on a park with numerous flood plain areas that were apparently deep underwater for a while.

Past that park, we have another series of hills and flood plains, and at the end of that flood plain, another bottleneck. I'm going to take a wild assed guess at it, and estimate that the water at that point may have been 4 feet or more over the road, since the flood plain drops right onto the road, the hills drain straight down to it, and it passes under a trestle. I've seen it up to two and nearly 3 feet at times. This creek narrows down to only 15-20 feet at that area, and at least in general, maybe a third or even more of joplin drains into it.

The canal starts out about 10 or so feet wide about 4 miles south and collects storm water all the way through this natural basin.

Officially, we got between 3 and 5 inches over maybe 5 hours or so of very intense rain. There was hail, too, but I didn't see it, I just heard the rain coming down. I can't even remember all the times that a certain strip of businesses that were built too low have been flooded.
